Business demography in Poland
Aneta Ptak-Chmielewska, Warsaw School of Economics
Business demography allows to measure the performance of enterprises in economy. The case of country in transition like Poland is a very interested case. The lack of data and low quality is still a problem, despite joining UE. Data available from the publications of the Central Statistical Office cover only firms registered in REGON (business register) which differ from number of active enterprises. The number of active enterprises represent about 60-70% of all registered firms. In my research I try to find the most important qualitative and quantitative factors determining births and deaths of enterprises in the context of economic changes during transition period. Due to lack of or limited additional surveys the analysis are focused mainly on available data and cover descriptive analysis based on demographic indicators.
