Hui Yang, Renmin University of China

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test whether demographic status, positive lifestyle and family relationship had significant effects on self-rated health of healthy older people living in Beijing. Data and method: Data retrieved from the 2005-Survey of the Healthy Elderly Population in Beijing which consisted of 5424 older healthy older people aged 65 and over. The method is binary logistic regression. Results: Compared with rating health fair, findings indicate that the younger and male older people, living an orderly life, taking physical practice, and family harmony were strongly associated with better self-rated health. Compared with never eating health food, the analysis revealed the inverse relationship between eating health food and self-rated health. Implications: Self-rated health is more strongly associated with living an orderly life, taking physical practice, and family harmony.
